Today we started off with lectures from Dr. Lori Beatty and Dr. Warren Fieldus who both completed the elective in 2009. They are both emerg docs in Halifax Nova Scotia. They covered topics including ENT, diabetes, diarrhea, and dive medicine. The afternoon was filled with team building activities with the camp Wesley woods staff. Guillaume started the student presentations with a demonstration of Prussik knots. After dinner Chuck Hestor, a GSMP ranger, joined us discussing SAR operations in the park and gave the students some ideas for the end of rotation backpacking trip.

As the snow flurries began to fall, the elective started out with Dr. Mel Otten discussing Medical kits, space medicine and bites and stings. Next Fred and Kirk began the WFR portion of the course discussing patient assessment. Students were warned about the perils of hypothermia. After dinner many students were found doing a cross fit/ px90 sort of exercises the the common room. Others headed out to socialize and Smokey Mountain Brewery in Pigeon Forge. After a rainy day of moving in and lots of flight delays the 2015 WMS elective class is relaxing at Buffalo Wild Wings and enjoying the Super Bowl! Ready to start tomorrow with Dr. Mel Otten. |
